• A Dark Moment in the Idoldome: When Ryan asked Scotty to pick the group he thought was safe, how’d that play on television? In the Idoldome, it felt like a burst of icy cold air. How could he ask Scotty to do such a thing? Actually, several in the audience around me uttered just that thought. It was even crazier when Scotty actually walked over to stand with Haley and James, who did indeed end up being safe with him. (Shouldn’t he have done the I’m-gonna-sit-down-right-here-in-the-middle thing?)

‘American Idol’: Did Jacob Lusk Pre-Plan His Exit Jam Session?
But was that burst of musical exuberance spontaneous? Or pre-planned? From my vantage in Section D, Row 6, Seat 1 at Tuesday night’s results show, it appeared…well, let me explain. During the commercial break, right before Ryan Seacrest told viewers Jacob going home and not Lauren Alaina was headed home, the R&B singer ran off stage and spoke to music director Ray Chew. I saw Jacob point to the stage and both men nod in agreement. Did Jacob have a feeling the axe was going to fall and decide at the last minute to end his song with the jam session?

1. The first recognizable face spotted in the crowd: Top 24 hopeful Rachel Zevita, who looked utterly lost while searching for her front row seat in Section F, on Randy’s side of the studio.
2.The signs were out if full force for the top 5 — I know because two were a constant obstruction in my line of sight, but at least one was funny. It read, “Haley: My girlfriend said we could go out on a date.” And speaking of dating (deny, deny, deny, but I just don’t buy), Cory the warm-up guy pointed out that there was a “we miss Casey” sign in the crowd, as well. Sweet.
Live at American Idol: Lauren’s Near Elimination Sent Her Spiraling Into Tears
With only four contestants left, there’s no doubt there will be big disappointments in the next couple weeks as Idol gears up for the finale. Thursday was a peek into the near future as fan favorite, Lauren, joined Jacob in the bottom two. Although she seemed to be OK when Ryan put her on one side of the stage opposite James Durbin, when the show cut to commercial she immediately started wiping away tears. Not even knowing if she was in the bottom two, she retreated to the couch with James, who looked like he was about to have a heart attack. While Lauren sat wiping away tear after tear, James sat with a hand over his heart and jaw slightly dropped.
The tension and panic only grew when Jacob and Lauren were announced they were up for elimination. Lauren sat on the couch waiting for Jennifer Lopez’s performance looking distraught, but no one seemed to care. The other contestants, Jacob included, sat chatting and smiling with not even a pat on Lauren’s back as if to say, ‘It’s OK.’

American Idol Recap: Stanks for the Memories
Thursday night’s installment of American Idol wasn’t so much a results show as it was a series of distinct promotional opportunities. Jennifer Lopez took a break from her grueling work behind the Idol judges’ table to hawk her two latest singles and herald the return of the saggy genie pant. Steven Tyler woke up from his long season’s nap to move a couple copies of his memoir. That horrible British guy who insulted Stefano Langone’s mother’s cooking tried to whip up some buzz for another one of his TV shows that I have no interest in watching. And Jacob Lusk, Season 10?s unapologetic howler, tried to stake a claim as his generation’s Luther Vandross.
Surprise! Singer in ‘Idol’s’ bottom 2 is a shocker
Jacob Lusk, the college dropout and spa concierge who had one of the biggest voices on “Idol” this season, had a problem on Wednesday. As mentor Jimmy Iovine saw it, Lusk looked and sounded nervous, and “when you lose confidence, everybody knows it.”
Most of the “Idol” audience agreed with that analysis. After the 60 million votes were tallied, Lusk became the latest singer sent home on Thursday, finishing in fifth place.
That wasn’t the most surprising news of the night. Lusk has been in danger before, and was the predictable choice to go. But the nervous girl standing beside him at the finish was 16-year-old Lauren Alaina instead of Haley Reinhart.
Jacob Lusk Sent Home On ‘American Idol’
First the good news: More than 60 million votes came in on Wednesday night for the highest vote total so far this season on “American Idol.” Of course, even with that avalanche of support, someone had to go home after the up-and-down “now and then”-themed performance episode.
As always at this stage of the competition, there was an unexpected twist, as gutsy high-schooler Lauren Alaina landed in the bottom for the first time all season. But when the tears were mopped up, it was gospel crooner Jacob Lusk who was sent to the showers, after a pair of performances that split the judges and drew low marks from mentor Jimmy Iovine.
American Idol Bids Farewell to the Lusky Stank
Well, it happened: Jacob Lusk got voted off American Idol, coming in as the fifth-place finisher, clearing the path for someone operating in a tired rock idiom (Haley, James) or an awkwardly young country idiom (Lauren, Scotty) to win the whole thing this year. Ho hum.
