Top 8 Results Show Recap

For the first time ever, I am live-blogging about an American Idol results show. Hope you enjoy it!!

8:00 PM: Loving this introduction tonight. It truly showcases the talent on this season. Whoever designed this intro is a genius. Truly, all of the contestants left on the show want to win, and want a recording contract. I have a great feeling that Jimmy Iovine or somebody at Interscope Records will give Pia Toscano, the awesome singer who went home last week a recording contract. I am still blown away by her going home. Thought she was a frontrunner. Guess not!

8:03 PM: Ryan announces that over 53 million votes were cast last night!

8:03 PM: Awesome, two of the best contestants on the show, Scotty McCreery and Lauren Alaina performing "American Honey" by Lady Antebellum. They sound so good together. Sounds so good. They need to duet more often. Lauren sorta sounds like Hillary Scott from Lady Antebellum. WOW!! No more judges' save, so whoever goes is out of luck in staying in the competition. The crowd is going wild!! This is the second time that Lauren and Scotty have performed a duet together! Awesome!!

8:06 PM to 8:09 PM: First commercial break

8:10 PM: They show the preparation of the Ford Music Video for this week.  Awesome the transformations of the Idol contestants. Looks like they had a lot of fun.

8:12 PM: The Ford Music Video features the Idols singing Neon Trees' song "Animal" It turned out awesome. WOW!!

8:13 PM: The second duet features Casey Abrams and Haley Reinhart singing "Moaning," a jazz standard. Sounds awesome. They need to keep doing the duets and trios each week. Very interesting concept, usually only seen in the finale. This is the first actual results show I have watched this season. I usually just tune in to the last five minutes of the show. I will have to tune in more now.

8:16 PM: Ryan gave it to the judges so they could comment on Haley and Casey's performance. Randy said that Haley sang like she should have sang.

8:16 PM: Ryan brings Casey, Haley, Scotty, and Lauren out to the middle of the stage to start off the results show. After the nationwide vote, Scotty is...SAFE!! That leaves Casey, Lauren, and Haley.

8:18 PM: Lauren is safe for another week.

8:19 PM: The person who finds themselves in the bottom three again is...Haley! Casey is safe for another week. Haley is in the Bottom 3, Casey, Lauren, and Scotty are safe!!

8:19 PM to 8:22 PM: Commercial break number 2, after which Jason Aldean and Kelly Clarkson, American Idol Season 1 Winner, sing their #1 duet, "Don't You Wanna Stay", and more results!!

8:24 PM: Rob Reiner talks to the Top 8 about what they picked for Songs from Movies. Classic and priceless!! This segment is awesome!! Lauren's Forrest Gump impression is very good!! Finally, Rob stated the similarity of Casey to Seth Rogen

8:27 PM: Jason Aldean and Kelly Clarkson perform their hit, "Don't You Wanna Stay" Awesome, one of my all-time favorite country duets!! Love that they are getting to perform this live on American Idol. They need to sing more duets with each other. They are awesome artists separately, but together they are magic.

8:29 PM: To recap who is safe and who is in the bottom 3:

Safe

  • Lauren Alaina
  • Scotty McCreery
  • Casey Abrams

Bottom 3

  • Haley Reinhart

8:31 PM: Jason and Kelly's single has went platinum, selling 1 million copies. That is awesome!!

8:32 PM to 8:35 PM: Third commercial break

8:32 PM: Special preview of the new upcoming Jon Favreau-directed, Ron Howard and Brian Grazer-produced, and executive-directed by Steven Spielberg movie Cowboys and Aliens, which stars Daniel Craig, Olivia Wilde, and Harrison Ford. Looks like it will be interesting.

8:35 PM: Jacob, Paul, Stefano, and James perform "The Sound of Silence" and "Mrs. Robinson" by Simon and Garfunkel. This one is pretty good also. Love how their voices are blending together. Paul should have sang "Mrs. Robinson" last night, it would have showcased his singing abilities better.

8:38 PM: James, Paul, Stefano, and Jacob stay on stage for the results. Two of these four complete the Bottom 3 tonight. The other two are safe.

8:39 PM: After the vote, James is safe!! YES!!!!

8:40 PM: After the vote, Stefano is in the Bottom 3!! America is agreeing with me so far!!

5) Scotty McCreery
6) Casey Abrams
7) Lauren Alaina

Let's see if I am right!! I was right about the Bottom 3!!

8:41 to 8:45 PM: Fourth commercial break. Rihanna performs after the break!

8:45 PM: Anita Baker and Chaka Khan are standing with Ryan, introducing Rihanna, who has sold over 30 millions albums (multi-platinum). She is performing the song she sang with Sugarland's Jennifer Nettles "California King Bed." We're finally getting to hear Rihanna's voice, which was overpowered by Jennifer Nettles on Sunday night's ACMs. This is an awesome song, I can see why they performed it on the ACMs, because the song transcends musical boundaries.

8:50 to 8:: Fifth commercial break, after which we find out who has sung their swan song, as Ryan said.

8:55 PM: After the vote, Haley is safe. Right again so far.

8:55 PM: The final two are Paul and Stefano. After the nationwide vote, Paul leaves American Idol tonight. Stefano is safe!!

8 for 8 on the results tonight. America agreed with me last night!! Thank you!!!

8:58 PM: Paul sings "Maggie May" as his swan song! My favorite performance of his!! Awesome song to sing as he leaves Idol tonight!!

Until tomorrow, D-RIZZ OUT!!!
