The Top 3 Sing A Personal Pick, A Judge’s Pick, and A Pick By Jimmy Iovine, With Mentoring Help From Beyonce

We are in for a treat with some more “moments” tonight on American Idol, with Scotty possible singing “What Hurts The Most” by Rascal Flatts and Lauren singing “I Hope You Dance”  by Lee Ann Womack and “How Do I Live” by LeAnn Rimes.

Then again, we may find out that the Alanis song Haley will be singing is too big for her, and only big enough for Alanis Morisette.

I sincerely hope that Haley goes home tomorrow night, and we have a Lauren/Scotty finale. That would be awesome, meaning that there will be for the first time ever two country contestants at the helm of the finale on American Idol.

Let’s wait and see…

Beyonce mentoring the Top 3, premiering her music video on Idol

@ryanseacrest: “Beyonce is helping the kids w their songs on #americanidol tonite & we’re premiering her #runtheworld video. It’s hot”

Nicole Scherzinger and 50 Cent Pretaping Idol Performances

@Idol_Worship reports “Nicole Scherzinger and 50 Cent pre-taping performances after tonight’s #Idol live show. Way to push those Interscope acts, Jimmy!”

I apologize in advance if I miss some things that happen on the show. I really hope the Internet cooperates with me tonight so I can post everything.

The Show

A promo begins featuring Scotty McCreery, Lauren Alaina, and Haley Reinhart and their auditions. They are showing clips from their homecomings, which occurred last week.

Very interesting intro to the show tonight!!

Judges Randy Jackson, Jennifer Lopez, and Steven Tyler are introduced, along with Ryan Seacrest

Ryan announces that the show will be two hours tonight, full of performances.

Next week, the performance show will be on Tuesday, May 25th, and the finale will be on Wednesday May 26th, from 8:00-10:07 PM.

Ryan brings out the remaining three contestants: Lauren, Scotty, and Haley.

Round One: Contestant’s Choice

The contestants will be mentored by former Destiny’s Child member, Beyonce Knowles.

First up is…Scotty McCreery. He is kicking the round off with his favorite song by Lonestar. I’m guessing he is performing “Amazed” or “I’m Already There.

Beyonce thinks Scotty has a charm, and that he is a cutie-pie. She says the song has a simple melody, and that his voice is warm and soulful.

“It was interesting to hear him go to that high of a range.”

“I think that he is very clever to save his tricks. If he nails it like he did with me, he also has range.”

What I Think: Had chills at the first few seconds of this song. His voice is so full of life and soul. He had a range that I didn’t even know he had. Plus, he is singing one of my all-time favorite country songs. His attempt to go into the higher notes of the song was very brave, and I think that it paid off for him! Major props to Scotty!!

Steven says, “Scotty, man. I think you just keep getting better and better. Did I hear you get angry. It’s what I’ve been waiting for.”

Jennifer says, “It’s great to see you over the week and seeing how much you have grown. You’ve grown so much as a performer.”

Randy says, “It was a great song. It’s an amazing song. You’re picking smart things. There were a couple of pitchy spots in the song. That’s money.”

Prediction: If it was by this performance alone, he would be safe!!

Lauren-Alaina

Next up is Lauren. She is paying tribute to one of her idols, Faith Hill. My guess is she is either singing “There You’ll Be” or “This Kiss”

Lauren is singing… “Wild One” by Faith Hill

Beyonce thinks…

“I’ve seen her in the past, and I enjoy her most in something fun. It loosens her up. I think her nerves are healthy, but when the camera’s on, that’s when you have to deliver. It’s really so simple to trust yourself and let go. She needs to just have the same trust in herself.”

What I Think: Beyonce was right. Fun songs have been Lauren’s cup of tea. Sometimes she doesn’t realize how amazing she is. A fun, cute little performance full of pizzazz and spunk. Another awesome song tonight. Haley has a lot to live up to with her personal pick tonight.

Steven says, “I love the way you were singing tonight. It was a moment you shined and it wasn’t even the chorus. I’m so happy for you.”

Jennifer says, “You come out here and attack it like that. That was very good.”

Randy says, “I love the advice that Beyonce was giving you about the opening up. The fearlessness you have to have. That’s what it should be about. When you let yourself go is when you’re your best.”

Prediction: Lauren is safe, based on this performance. Haley has a lot to live up to tonight.

Next up is Haley Reinhart. She has a lot to live up to tonight with her first performance. Two amazing performances happened before her tonight, so she must step it up if she wants the chance to win American Idol.

She is singing… “What Is and What Should Never Be” by Led Zeppelin

Beyonce thinks, “She is a risk taker. She has conviction. She makes her believe in what she believes in. I think that Haley is a rock star. Haley has a presence. I don’t think I’ve heard anyone like her. You’re incredible.”

What I Think: She definitely took a risk tonight. I am not familiar with this song. She is very brave for attempting this song made famous by Led Zeppelin. I have to admit, the performance is not half bad. There were some pitchy spots, and she kinda lost it in the middle. Her growl is kinda getting on my nerves a little bit, has all season.

Steven says, “It’s not about how many times you fall, it’s about how many times you get up.”

Jennifer says, “What happens is you gotta keep going. These people deserve more than that. It was a really tough song to sing. A really good round for you.

Randy says, “Yo, man, listen. This is what it’s all about. Yo, look man. I love the fact that in this moment. This girl is slaying it. You chose a song not for the weak at heart. This was one of your best performances ever. Haley is in it to win it.”

Prediction: Even though Haley gave a very good performance tonight, I still think she is outshined by Scotty and Lauren and therefore going home tomorrow night.

End of Round 1!

Unanimous decision that Haley won that round.

Round 2: Jimmy Iovine’s Pick

scotty mccreery

Scotty is up first, and before his song, he was sitting out in the audience with Priscilla Presley, so I am guessing he is singing an Elvis Presley song.

Scotty is singing… “Are You Gonna Kiss Me Or Not” by Thompson Square

What I Think: An interesting choice for Jimmy to pick for Scotty. His voice actually suits the song very well. Again, Jimmy has an ear for good music. After all, he found Lady Gaga!

Steven says, “Scotty, Scotty, I never heard you deliver a chorus like that before. That was great.”

Jennifer says, “You came away after the spoken line. That’s what the zone feels like. You just feel so comfortable in your skin. Will you shave your head like you auditioned with for the finale?”

Randy says, “I think Scotty that Jennifer would kiss him. Jimmy picked a good song for you. It was really perfect. What it gave me the feeling this time. You are approaching that Garth level. I thought I was like at a concert again. He’s in it to win it.”

Prediction: Definitely safe.

Lauren-Alaina

Lauren is up next…

She is singing… “If I Die Young” by The Band Perry

I think Jimmy picked right again. He is picking good ones so far.

What I Think: She is actually singing the song better than The Band Perry, and she’s younger than the three band members!! That is astounding and amazing. Her voice was meant to sing this song. Had chills on this one also!!

Steven says, “It’s a beautiful song, you have a beautiful voice, and you nailed it again.”

Jennifer says, “You, Lauren, have the most beautiful tone of our finalists. You had a very honest moment in the middle of that song. You’re 16 years old, and I felt that. It was beautiful.”

Randy says, “You know what was great when you realized you missed the modulation. You got such a beautiful song. It was a beautiful song choice by Jimmy Iovine. Couple of stumbles, but come on now, stay in it.”

Prediction: Definitely safe.

71084-haley-reinhart

Next up is Haley Reinhart.

She is singing… “Rhiannon” by Stevie Nicks

What I Think: She is taking another risk with this song! To me, this song sounds karaoke to me. Something about this song is throwing me off…I know what it is, Haley’s voice in this one. She has a good voice, but she went back to boring me to death again. I could probably sing this song better than this. Bad choice for Jimmy to give her.

Steven says, “You sang that song so beautifully, you reminded me why I fell in love with Stevie Nicks.”

Jennifer says, “It was a beautiful moment. I thought you were going to go further. A ethereal moment.”

Randy says, “You crack me up. Why were you looking up? Well, you did a good job. It was more of a somber moment. You’re in the zone.”

Prediction: Should go home after that performance. Stevie Nicks could do better than that.

Round 2 is Over!!

Randy-Scotty

Jimmy-I’m in love with all of them.

Round 3: Judges’ Pick

scotty mccreery

Scotty is singing “She Believes In Me” by Kenny Rogers

What I Think: I think that Scotty is knocking this one out of the park. His voice is suited for this slow of a song. Made famous by the great Kenny Rogers, Scotty made him proud tonight. I could really feel the vocals and the heart that Scotty had in the performance.

Steven says, “I do believe that is the first big chorus you have sang yet. You put it over the top. That was it.”

Jennifer says, “That was one of the reasons why we talked about you doing that song.”

Randy says, “The guys are right, it’s about stretching out of your comfort zone. You were so sweet and tender in the front.”

Prediction: Definitely safe.

Lauren-Alaina

Lauren is singing “I Hope You Dance” by Lee Ann Womack

What I Think: This is an amazing performance from Lauren. No words can describe how much I like this song and Lauren!

Steven says, “You walked out like you owned the Grand Ole Opry. I’m so happy. America’s so happy. Good going!”

Jennifer says, “You see that right there. That does not lie. Those only come out when somebody makes them come out. Gave me goosies.”

Randy says, “Dude, you slayed it. A great lyric for a great singer. You sang it great. She’s in it to win it.”

Prediction: Definitely safe.

71084-haley-reinhart

Haley is singing “You Oughta Know” by Alanis Morisette

What I Think: Wow at the censoring of the song. That part that didn’t make any sense. Oh, about the song! She is still boring me so badly! Alanis did tons better on this song. Haley can’t even touch her feet on this song. What a horrible way to end the show. I am disgusted at the judges. The song was too big for Haley, like I predicted.

Steven says, “Amazing, I don’t know what to say. Beautiful.”

Jennifer says, “It was a really good job. There’s no one who can match you with the power that you put behind the growl.

Randy says, “Listen, man. America’s got their work cut out for them. I love seeing you rock out. Haley is in it to win it.”

Prediction: Going home, but she gave a valiant and a brave effort.
