The Top 4 Tackle Songs of Leiber and Stoller and Songs of Inspiration

image

This should be a very interesting episode of American Idol tonight, with there being two different themes tonight: the songs of Leiber and Stoller, and inspirational songs.

Also, we have Interscope recording artist Lady Gaga mentoring the Idol contestants tonight.

With Steven Tyler as a judge, and Lady Gaga as a mentor, what better episode of Idol could there be tonight?

ON TO THE SHOW!!!

8:00 PM

An introduction featuring Diddy-Dirty Money’s song “Coming Home” with past seasons’ contestants. Very inspiring and very interesting.

They also are featuring the Final 4 contestants.

8:02 PM

Judges Randy Jackson, Jennifer Lopez, and Steven Tyler are introduced, along with host Ryan Seacrest

8:03 PM

Ryan brings out the four remaining contestants: Haley Reinhart, Scotty McCreery, Lauren Alaina, and James Durbin

8:04 PM

james_durbin

Ryan introduces Lady Gaga the mentor for the Leiber/Stoller round, and the first performer, James Durbin. He is singing “Don’t Stop Believing” by Journey

What I Think

So far, James is sounding like his other songs. The performance ended up sounding pretty good. Pitchy in some spots though.

8:07 PM

Steven says, “Little indication of what is yet to come. You know you did it right. Nice going.”

Jennifer says, “It’s so great to listen to you go into your vibrato. Great song, great job, great performance.”

Randy says, “I’m glad that you’re giving him props. And let me just say, the highest degree of difficulty, and you did it!!”

James’s numbers are 1-866-IDOLS-01, and 1-866-IDOLS-05, you can text VOTE to 5701, or vote online at Americanidol.com

Prediction: James should be safe.

8:09 PM

Ryan says Haley is tackling the King of Pop, Michael Jackson. I guess she will either be singing “Heal the World” or “I’ll Be There”. Part of me is not looking forward to this performance.

8:09-8:13 PM

First commercial break of the night.

8:13 PM

Steven’s book is on top of the bestselling book chart.

8:14 PM

Haley’s song that inspired her is Earth Song by Michael Jackson

What I Think: The song is completely boring me, so much that I want to poke my ears out. Sounded like a weak karaoke performance to me. It’s like someone took the vibrancy of her previous performances and stole it from her. Not liking the performance. The only saving grace of this performance is the choir. She deserves to be in the Bottom 2 for this performance.

8:16 PM

Jennifer says, “So, Haley, here’s what I love about that. I really felt that it did inspire you. Here’s the thing with where we’re at in the competition. James set the bar.”

Randy says, “Jennifer’s right. The song doesn’t really suit you. Sounds like you are screaming at the end. The song didn’t go there. The song needed you to deliver it. I felt like you were screaming that.”

Steven says, “They’re both wrong. That song showed me that you can. The upper register, you nailed it. The audience heard it and America heard it.”

Haley’s numbers are 1-866-IDOLS-02 and 1-866-IDOLS-06, text VOTE to 5702, or vote online at americanidol.com

Prediction: Haley has sang her swan song, unless she reverses how she performed with the Leiber/Stoller song.

8:20 PM

Ryan says that Scotty will be singing an emotional anthem. My guess is that Scotty possibly sings “Courtesy of the Red, White, and Blue” by Toby Keith

May be another awesome moment in the show.

8:20-8:25 PM

Second commercial break

8:25 PM

scotty mccreery

Ryan is sitting mid-stage with Scotty McCreery. He gets the Coke Interview of the Week.

Scotty chose “Where Were You When The World Stopped Turning” by Alan Jackson.

What I Think: I think that him picking the song is a little timely, considering the death of OBL. Glad that he is getting to perform this song on Idol. The song was good.

8:29 PM

Randy says, “Yo, Scotty, you know that’s a great, amazing song. Great lyric. I can tell with all of you tonight. All of these songs are inspirational. I think that it is a perfect song as for where we are as a country. You’ve set your mark this season.”

Steven says, “I saw you almost lose it in the middle. Keep your passion.

Jennifer says, “I’m in love with you. I love that you know who you are. It’s the mark of really somebody that is meant to do this. I’m glad we’re here to witness it.

The numbers for Scotty are 1-866-IDOLS-03 and 1-866-IDOLS-07, text Vote to 5703, and vote at americanidol.com

Prediction: Safe.

8:32 PM

Ryan says Lauren is singing a contemporary song.

8:32-8:35 PM

Third commercial break

8:35 PM

Lauren-Alaina

Lauren is singing “Anyway” by Martina McBride, in support of the tornado victims in the South.

What I Think: This song is completely perfect for Lauren. She needed to sing this song weeks ago. Lauren just had a moment. That is the moment of the night for me!!

8:39 PM

Steven says, “Lauren, you did it again! You broke my heart. Your voice is so pure and perfect. You deliver a song like a Blue Plate special.”

Jennifer says “I’m so proud of you. Everything we are telling you is to help you get to the last moment. That is exactly what we are talking about.”

Randy says, “I gotta tell you something. What you just did right there, the Lauren we loved, Lauren is back, and in it to win it. What was wrong with that performance? Absolutely nothing!!”

Numbers are 1-866-IDOLS-04 and 1-866-IDOLS-08, text VOTE to 5704, and vote at americanidol.com

Prediction: Safe, by a million miles!!

8:41 PM

Round one is done, judges for a recap:

Jennifer: It’s hard to say who won that round.

Randy: I think that it’s a tie with Lauren, Scotty, and James.

WOW! I can’t believe Randy has went all anti-Haley on the viewers!! Although, the performance was horrendous!! Even a dog barking would sound better than her performance!!

8:41-8:47  PM

Fourth commercial break

8:47 PM

Round Two, the Leiber/Stoller round begins.

8:47 PM

Ryan calls out Randy for being mean. He then introduces Lady Gaga as the mentor for this week. Awesome that she is the mentor this week!!

8:48 PM

71084-haley-reinhart

Haley sings “I (Who Have Nothing)” by Peggy Lee

Got this one right on the money!! Predicted it right!

Haley may have redeemed herself with this song. We’ll see!!

What I Think: This song is tons better than the first song. This song suits her some more than the first song. She just redeemed herself with this song!! I honestly have chills on this one!!

8:52 PM

Steven says, “You just Reinharted yourself into next week!”

Jennifer says, “Haley, this is why we can’t take it easy on you. Look what you are capable of. One of the best performances of the year.”

Randy says, “Baby, you just had a moment right here, which put you in it to win it. That was amazing, one of your best performances ever.”

Prediction: Still think she will go home, but she did redeem herself with that performance. Honestly, too close to tell.

8:55 PM

Ryan says you’ll never guess what Gaga says to Scotty. There’s no telling with her!!

8:55-9:00 PM

Fifth commercial break.

9:00 PM

scotty mccreery

Scotty sings “Young Blood” by The Coasters

“Keep your mouth on the microphone. Make love to that microphone.”-Gaga says.

What I Think: Gaga was right. Scotty is doing good on this performance. It is showing his humor. Very awesome performance. Loved the performance. Gaga is being an awesome mentor so far.

9:03 PM

Steven says, “You made Gaga’s ya-ya go la-la. I love the humor.”

Jennifer says, “It’s really great. You hit your stride. The earlier performance was the moment for tonight. I wanna see something that brings a whole nother side to you.

Randy says, “Yo, Scotty, dude did you have a good time? I love that you come out and do this fun song. We gotta pray for everybody. You came out and you were having a good time. We just saw both sides of a Scotty concert. You’re like a seasoned professional.'”

Prediction: Safe

9:05-9:10 PM

Sixth commercial break.

9:10 PM

Lauren-Alaina

Lauren is getting the second Coke interview of the night.

Lauren is performing “Trouble” by Elvis Presley

What I Think: Loving this performance. Loving this new side of Lauren. She needed this performance for the past weeks. The performance is completely honest, and amazing.

9:13 PM

Steven says, “That was well done. That was the character that came out again.”

Jennifer says, “You know I saw a performance quality, that was mature, total attack. I was like, who was that? Some serious good performance there. We saw some maturity there in your performance.”

Randy says, “Like we were saying to Scotty earlier, it’s out of your comfort zone. She’s working it. You gotta let go. Big ups to her, big ups to you. Nice.”

Prediction: Safe

9:16-9:20 PM

Seventh commercial break

9:20 PM

james_durbin

James is singing “Love Potion No. 9” by

Got this one right also!! Predicted this one right!!

What I Think: Loving this performance!! Gave the song a rock metal feel that it needed so much!! He’s awesome!!

9:25 PM

Steven says, “What you can’t do with your voice, you did tonight!”

Jennifer says, “James, you know what that showed me, James. That you can sing anything. I wasn’t sure about that song. You just told me that I was absolutely wrong. You take any song and put that James thing on it.”

Randy says, “Hopefully, all four of you are in it to win it. You are now what I love about sports. You’re peaking at the right time. You’re having a moment every week.”

Prediction: Safe

That’s it for the performance show!! See you tomorrow for the results show!!

My Top 3

1) James Durbin

2) Scotty McCreery

3) Lauren Alaina

Who’s Going Home?

Haley Reinhart
